History of the Larry King Center

The Larry King Center launched in 2009 after the community mobilized to create an intermediary organization to work for long-term change for children. After a lengthy community discussion, the Council for Children’s Rights was identified as the best home for the new intermediary organization.

Five Charlotte-based foundations provided the initial funding for the Larry King Center:

The Larry King Center was named after Larry King, a long time child advocate in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community and former executive director of the Council for Children, who passed away from cancer in 2005.
