The Larry King Center

The Larry King Center for Building Children’s Futures is committed to providing long-term solutions to chronic problems affecting children in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community.

Our Roles

The Larry King Center serves the community at a strategic level – maximizing the impact of work by providers, agencies, and funders. LKC is dedicated to supporting effective action for children by meeting four key needs:

Community Engagement
Community Planning
Public Policy Advocacy
Research and Evaluation

Our Priorities

Reflecting the Council’s mission to stand up for every child’s right to be safe, healthy, and educated, The Larry King Center is focused initially on three priorities: improving school readiness, reducing child abuse and neglect, and increasing access to physical and mental health care.

As a community that values children, it is our job to set the expectation that every child will be supported on their road to academic success. To that end, The Larry King Center of the Council for Children’s Rights (LKC) works through research, community planning and policy advocacy to improve community outcomes for children.

Early investments in the safety, health and education of young children reap immeasurable positive rewards for the individual and the broader community.  Building upon the best available data and research, the LKC has built a comprehensive community plan to attack the achievement gap where it begins: before a child enters kindergarten. Over 200 community leaders, agency directors and parents informed the plan and developed strategies in the domains of Ready Families, Ready Health, Ready Early Care, Ready Schools and Ready Community.
